Support Brigade history

The Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai District (HKD)Support Brigade is a NSW Rural Fire Service brigade located within the grounds of the HKD Fire Control Centre at 1049 Pacific Highway, Cowan, NSW 2081.

In June 2007, a working party was convened to determine the feasibility of establishing a "Logistics" brigade for the Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai districts. With the assistance of the District Manager and Group Captains, and under the stewardship of Captain Alan Barnwell, the HKD Logistics Brigade was established on the 14th of April 2008. The brigade's name was officially changed to the HKD Support Brigade soon after.

Since then the brigade has evolved to cover 4 main groups - Operations/Logisitcs, Berowra Fire Tower, Galston Fire Tower and untill recently Aviation support.

The Support Brigade is one of three  "non-operational" (ie non-firefighting) brigades within the Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai District; which also include the Communications and Catering brigades.
